Kylie Tarleton is a proud Wiradjuri woman from Orange, New South Wales. She is a contemporary Aboriginal artist. Kylie’s artworks depicts animals in their natural habitat. Many of Kylie’s pieces of art are created using acrylic paint on silk to emphasise the water effect in the background.
Kylie’s artwork is extremely colourful and unlike many contemporary and traditional Aboriginal artists Kylie does not use colours like red, black and yellow or earthy brown colours. Although there are some similarities to traditional Aboriginal artwork Kylie is unique to her and shows the animals living in peace and harmony with their natural environment. When you look at Kylie’s artwork it makes you smile and feel happy.

Kylie see’s all living creatures as part of the natural environment and this is based on the Aboriginal relationship to the land ‘We don’t own the land or the animals don’t own us’, identity is expressed through our relationships.

Kylie’s artwork is a positive representation of the ideal world as the best that it can be based on the things that Aboriginal people hold most important such as family.
